A joint study by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) reveals that companies with intellectual property rights have on average 20% higher revenues per employee than companies without such rights. The study therefore supports the previous findings that a significant market position and positive economic development can be achieved with a broad and/or strong IP portfolio.
The President of the European Patent Office, António Campinos, states:
“The stronger the intellectual property rights portfolio, the better the company’s economic performance. Companies with intellectual property rights not only generate more sales, their employees also earn more. These are important signals for our economy and society […].”
